OHSU suspends state’s sole heart transplant program due to staffing shortage

Oregon Health & Science University suspended the state’s only heart transplant program on Friday, following the departure of one specialist and the planned departure of two others from the program team, according to a statement from OHSU. During a 14-day “inactivation period,” OHSU won’t evaluate any new patients for transplant, accept donor hearts or perform heart transplant surgeries for patients on the waiting list, according to the statement.
