In a speech before a joint session of Congress, Pope Francis on Thursday called for the abolition of the death penalty, urged compassion for immigrants and refugees, and sounded the alarm on climate change. Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. and Justices Anthony Kennedy, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor attended the address.
